On Wednesday, June 4th, Queen’s University Belfast hosted a dynamic gathering led by the All-Island Feminist Climate Justice Network. The event brought together activists, community leaders, academics, and campaigners to explore strategies for climate action rooted in social justice.

Organised under the banner of the Feminist Communities for Climate Justice National Network (FCCJNN), the event formed part of a broader project between Community Work Ireland and the National Women’s Council. The project highlights and tackles the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on marginalised communities in Ireland — including Traveller and Roma communities, disabled people, older people, and those seeking international protection.

Attendees engaged in cross-sector discussions on how to drive climate justice grounded in feminist values and community development principles. The Network’s five working groups — Feminist Communities for Local Food, Events and Outreach, Policy and Advocacy, Arts and Creative Approaches, and Women in Nature Restoration — shared insights and opportunities for collaboration.

Of special note was the spotlight on the Women in Nature Restoration working group, led by Tóchar, which champions inclusive, community-led restoration of natural ecosystems with women’s leadership at the centre.

The event marked an important step in building solidarity across the island and shaping climate solutions that are just, inclusive, and transformative.
